Granddaughter Ripley, 26 months old, is going to have a sibling at the end of August. Mom and Dad (Amy and Judson) are decided on names. As with Ripley, they have chosen not to know the gender, which makes it hard on the grandmas and greatgrandma. Of course, back in the “old days” none of us ever knew until the birth what we would be having, but that was long, long ago and far away. Now, there is ultrasound and most parents want to know in order to plan ahead and get things ready. I mean, what good is technology if you don’t take advantage of it! Hence, neutral colors – yellow, green, beige – and themes – animals, forests, farms, shapes, space – abound at showers of the intentionally uninformed…(sighhh) I vote for showers after the birth!
Ripley was named for Sigourney Weaver’s strong, tough character in “Alien.” Our Ripley is always smiling, gives great hugs, loves to wrestle, and has the most fantastic laugh. Sometimes when something pleases her, we’ll do it over and over until she’s laughing so much she cries. This chain of events gets the whole room rolling. We hope she will think her brother or sister is amusing.
August 27th has been proclaimed to be The Date, but we all know how that goes. As of last week, the baby weighs about 4-1/2 lbs. and is moving around like crazy. Amy is doing well but on restricted lifting. She sees the midwife every two weeks now. She and Jud are going to birthing classes.
Will keep you posted…
