The utter destruction and loss of lives from humongous tornadoes over the past weeks have been overwhelming with only grief, disbelief, and total compassion left behind. Compounding this heartache felt by all is the knowledge that there is no capturable enemy and, therefore, no revenge or justice to be had.
Those of us who have been spared should help by donating money and/or basic goods, by volunteering as much as possible, or by taking in survivors who have no one or no place to go. Prayers alone are not enough. http://www.redcross.org/ http://www.salvationarmyusa.org/usn/www_usn_2.nsf and http://feedingamerica.org/ .
Also, instead of planning for a garage sale, ask Red Cross and Salvation Army about donating clothing, household goods, and furnishings. Perhaps volunteers are needed to drive relief items or perhaps these relief agencies know of private groups who have already organized such trips to storage facilities in devastated areas. Of course, rebulding cannot begin until the rubble has been cleared, but it would be so uplifting to have warehouses full of items for temporary housing.
However, nothing will make everything all right.
