Go, Women, Go!!!

In case you haven’t heard of or read about today’s Saudi Arabian women defying the drive ban, here are some excerpts from today’s AFP article:

“RIYADH (AFP) – A number of Saudi women drove cars on Friday in response to calls for nationwide action to break a traditional ban, unique to the ultraconservative kingdom, according to reports on social networks.”

“Verteran women’s rights activist Wajiha al-Huwaidar told AFP on Friday that she did not expect a huge turnout as hoped for by sympathisers abroad because of the severe response by officials to women who have taken the lead in recent weeks.”

“Women in Saudi Arabia face an array of constraints, ranging from having to cover from head to toe in public and needing a male guardian’s permission to travel, to having restricted access to jobs because of strict segregation rules.”

“There is no law banning women from driving in the oil-rich kingdom, but the interior ministry imposes regulations based on a fatwa, or religious edict, stipulating women should not be permitted to drive.”

“A counter Facebook group was created urging men to beat every woman they spot behind the wheel.”

“The last en masse protest against the ban was held in November 1990 when a group of women stunned Saudi men by driving around Rihadh in 15 cars before being arrested. The women were provoked at the time by the sight of US female soldiers who were taking part in the first Gulf war driving military vehicles freely in their own country while they are banned. The 47 women sho took part in that protest were severely punished, with authorities suspending many from public sector jobs and reprimanding their male guardians.”

First of all, that Neanderthals still exist today is beyond comprehension. The so-called men of Saudi Arabia hide behind the cloak of their religion to justify their demeaning and abusive actions against women. They are nothing more than domineering thugs. That they claim Allah/God/Mohammed encourages and condones such abhorrent, unloving behavior is utter nonsense!

Secondly, if the entire female population of Saudi Arabia rebelled, no one could stop them, and change would occur. Instead, 47 women in 1990 had the guts to act for what is right and were punished for it. (The numbers are not out on today’s peaceful driving protest.)Come on, women, you are stronger than that! Stand up for yourselves: refuse to cook, refuse to copulate, refuse to wash clothes!!! Post all of your actions and abuse online and do not stop. Raise the cry of desegregation and equality for all! Imbue in your children their worth as human beings. It is time to flourish!! God bless the internet!

Thirdly, Saudi Arabia is not alone in its abuse, disdain, demeaning, and fear of women. Any country where females are allowed to be mutilated, set on fire, raped, and murdered in vast numbers without dire consequences is one that should be shamed and sanctioned into changing its evil ways and not rewarded with financial aid, out-sourced jobs, or prestige. Tact be damned!
