Stupid and Stupider

*Besides her family, Mom loves basketball and lives for its season. Usually an early-to-bed person, she will stay up to midnight watching the Spurs. (A few years ago she excitedly shook hands and chatted with a gracious David Robinson, who made her day and then some.) Therefore, as an avid fan, she should be happy a basketball season could be close at hand. However, she is so totally irate over the entire owners’ and players’ problems that she may not watch a game ever again. Being a feisty 83-year-old, Mom roots for, cheers, and boos with the youngest, biggest, and most enthusiastic of fans, but she does not tolerate disputes over lots of money. “They’re all idiots!” she touts. “Phooey on them!” Basketball is a GAME! She only feels sorry for all the other people who depend on the jobs and business generated by the athletic entertainment industry and have been laid off or suffered loss of revenues due to the lengthy negotiations. The NBA should not forget they would be NOWHERE without their fans to buy tickets and team products or the resultant endorsements.

*In my opinion, Ndamukong Suh of the Detroil Lions should be ousted from the game – permanently. So should every single player who acts like a six-year-old having a tantrum. Football is a brutal enough sport without added kicks, stomps, head-butts, and punches. If nothing else, as role models, all professional athletes should act above reproach after being allowed the privilege to play in any lucrative sport.  Childish behavior does not belong in the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, etc. This incident, along with all the past and future ones, simply illustrates that males will be males no matter what age they are. Professional athletes receive exhorbitant salaries, not for their ingenuity, intellect, or improving the world, but for PLAYING A GAME!!!! So, why do the rest of us continue to expect them to act grown-up?

*Yesterday, Black Friday became even blacker. Shopping violence erupted all over the country. How utterly stupid! I have never been out on the day/night after Thanksgiving and never will. Hope the merchants are happy! How about they just lower their prices year round and people shop year round, finding great deals? Yeah, that’ll happen!
