Internet Censorship

Today, January 18th, our posts are being blacked in protest of two internet censorship bills – Stop Online Piracy Act(SOPA) and the Protect Intellectual Property Act (PIPA) – being discussed in Congress: . Here is some more information: and . The consequences of the passage of these bills would be damaging in many ways:

According to the Congressional Budget Office, this bill would cost $47 million tax dollars a year — that’s for a fix that won’t work, disrupts the internet, stifles innovation, shuts out diverse voices, and censors the internet. This bill is bad for creativity and does not protect your rights.

As far as I’m concerned, the only viable censorship that I adamantly approve of is the shutting down of child porn sites, which condone and encourage pedophilia. ANYTHING that harms children should be annihilated; banning is not good enough. The purveyors of these perverted websites should be arrested, and the names of EVERY subscriber and visitor to these depraved websites should be broadcast and made public. Why can’t that be accomplished? Because there are too many? Because some of the patrons are rich/famous/powerful? Tough stuff, do it anyway! Because of the privacy issue? What privacy?!?!?! The moment ANY person breaks the law or commits a crime against humanity, especially a child, he/she forfeits privacy. Any person who does not or cannot live by the rules of law and morality has forfeited their place in civilized society.

The Alcatraz prison was a good idea – it just wasn’t big enough or out in the middle of nowhere. Child murderers, rapists, molesters, slave traders, and all their abettors should be sent to a secluded island to fend for themselves. Forget about paying for their years of upkeep in a prison – they do not deserve it.

I know, I know – the Brits tried that idea long ago with the worst criminals sent to Australia and New Guinea, but they were too kind and did not leave them untended. They should have pushed them off the boats and let them swim to shore, whether they knew how or not. Maybe a shark would have eaten them, or not…
