Two California boys vs a Mexican drug cartel. Not a pleasant fight. Throw in some corruption and a pretty California girl and you have another drug film about rich good people vs rich bad people. That’s ripe Hollywood entertainment! Expect nothing more. No wonder Salma Hayek did not want top billing.

The cast includes Blake Lively as “O,” Taylor Kitsch as “Chon,” and Aaron Johnson as “Ben,” none of whom I have heard of or seen before. Chon and Ben grow the primo weed, enjoy the profits, and share the doper girl. The actors I do know are Salma Hayek as “Elena,” the ruthless leader of the drug cartel, John Travolta as Dennis,” a believably corrupt FBI agent, and Benicio Del Toro as “Lado,” a very convincing evil guy. Violence, sex, and drugs – what more could you ask for?

Rating: 2.8 of 5 stars.
