Ban Automatic Weapons

Today in Connecticut 20 children and 6 adults were killed by a shooter with several automatic weapons. Weapons supported by the NRA, its powerful lobby, and the politicians in its pockets. Weapons manufactured in this country. Weapons that can now be concealed in every state. ARE ALL OF YOU HAPPY WITH YOURSELVES??? Your lack of common sense condoned this man’s actions. schoolshooting-report

BAN AUTOMATIC WEAPONS!!!

People do not need automatic weapons, including AK-47s, for hunting or protecting their families. A single shot rifle and a six-bullet pistol should be totally adequate for hunting and security. But as it stands now, and has since the NRA came into power, that is not enough for gun show enthusiasts and greedy politicians who don’t have the balls to say NO MORE. How many more children have to die before the NRA and its proponents take full responsibility? How many more children will be killed before Americans start protesting? How many, people, how many???

BAN AUTOMATIC WEAPONS!!!

The Middle East has suicide bombers who murder innocent people almost everyday. There is no difference with murderers here in America. The Taliban and other terrorist organizations back killing attacks. The NRA and gun manufacturers are guilty and responsible for every automatic weapon death in this country. “Guns don’t kill people; people kill people” doesn’t cut it anymore!

BAN AUTOMATIC WEAPONS!!!

Our founding fathers would be appalled by what their words have done to the mindset of too many citizens of this country. They could not have foreseen what would be so horrendous in the future. “The right to bear arms” had nothing to do with the weapons and ammunition available now. There were no repeating rifles in the American Revolution.

BAN AUTOMATIC WEAPONS NOW!!!

Hollywood, you are to blame as well. Time to cut back on glorifying death, shooting, murder, guns, and bad guys. And why, for God’s sake, are you putting out any violent films this month of all months? “Django Unchained” opens on Christmas Day? What are you thinking???

    Cyranette,
I am a little perplexed. In your biography you state, “I cannot abide intolerance, ignorance, narrow-mindedness, selfishness, fanaticism…”, yet, isn’t that exactly what you are doing with your blog on “banning automatic weapons”. First of all, an automatic weapon was not used and never has been used in any of the school shootings. Automatic weapons are highly restricted and controlled. The term assault weapon merely refers to the the similarity between the way the weapon looks to it’s military brother. Granted you can buy a clip that holds more rounds but I can do the same for my deer rifle. They are both still semi-automatic weapons and shoot the exact same bullet. Let’s say we ban high capacity clips. Then they just bring more with them. Actually a shooter would be better off bringing pistols and no rifles because they are much smaller and they could carry several with no problem and wield one in each hand. The devistation would be no less.
The AK 47 shoots a 308 round which has been a favorite of deer hunters for as long as i can remember. Does calling it an AK 47 make it more dangerous or does it’s looks make it that way. It is no more dangerous than my semi-automatic Browning deer rifle. I don’t mean to be so critical but it really bothers me when people push an agenda that they don’t understand. Banning firearms will do very little to disuade a mentally ill person or a criminal from commiting such a horrible atrocity. We need to address the roots of the issue and gun ownership is not it.

Be perplexed all you want. I am a nonviolent person, except when it comes to defending children, who do not deserve to die or be hurt in any way. We cannot control their deaths from disease and weather, but we can start to control their deaths by guns. You obviously have not been listening to the comments from around the world, Joel, or studying the statistics. These latest deaths could be the terrible straws that finally break the back of the NRA. I am not foolish enough to push banning ALL firearms; I am voicing my opinion about needless automatic weapons…BTW: Do you smoke, too?

As for the mental health or stability of this man or any killer of children, it is beyond my ken. Mental health issues are constantly skirted around, pushed to the wayside, and blatantly ignored. Long considered an embarrassing stigma, mental illness has never been confronted head-on, researched, and treated like a deadly disease because too often there is no physical manifestion, like bleeding or a broken bone. Perhaps neighbors and communities need to reach out to parents with disturbed children and not just tsk them away.

        Cyranette,
Did you even read my post? Automatic weapons were not used and have been highly regulated since 1934. You really need to have an understanding of the subject before spewing out inaccurate information. Are you implying that gun owners are violent people? I’m not sure where the smoking question is headed but, I have never smoked in my life. Is this another stereotype you have formed about gun owners. Have I looked at the statistics? Actually I have and they said that the assault weapons ban in the 1990’s had little to no effect on crime. That is why they let the ban expire. Why, because most crimes are committed with handguns. Unfortunately, crimes like these are going to happen regardless of gun bans. This is a typical response from “gun phobics” instead of addressing the true issues lets take away some more rights. Let me end with, ” They wern’t automatic weapons.”

Joel, we will have to agree to disagree on this issue. I understand there are millions of responsible gun owners, but I don’t understand the need for any automatic weapons in hunting or recreational sports. Nor will I ever understand the need for more than two weapons – we only have two hands.
